WHY IT MATTERS

The markers your GP doesn't order.

6

Critical markers missed by standard panels

Faecalibacterium prausnitzii

The single most important anti-inflammatory species in the gut. Deficiency is consistently observed in IBD, depression, obesity, and metabolic syndrome.

Akkermansia muciniphila

Protects the gut lining and improves insulin sensitivity. Low levels are associated with obesity, Type 2 diabetes, and neurological conditions.

Calprotectin

The gold-standard biomarker for intestinal inflammation — elevated in IBD, infection, and barrier disruption. A standard colonoscopy does not measure this.

Butyrate producers

Butyrate is the primary fuel source for the cells lining your colon. Low butyrate production drives inflammation, leaky gut, and colon cancer risk.

Zonulin

Elevated zonulin is the direct marker of intestinal permeability (leaky gut) — allowing bacterial endotoxins (LPS) to enter systemic circulation.

H. pylori virulence (CagA)

H. pylori strains carrying the CagA gene cause significantly greater mucosal damage and carry 3–5x higher gastric cancer risk. Standard breath tests do not differentiate strains.

FAQ

Common Questions

Yes — the stool collection is entirely at home using the sterile kit provided. No clinic visit, no fasting, no uncomfortable procedures.

Stop antibiotics and anti-fungal drugs 2 weeks before testing. Stop probiotics and prebiotics 3 days before. Stop aspirin, ibuprofen, digestive enzymes, minerals, and amino acid supplements 3 days before.

Standard PCR tests look for a pre-selected list of 30–50 organisms. Shotgun metagenomics sequences all DNA in the sample — identifying over 28,000 species including rare, unculturable, and previously unknown microbes. PCR will tell you if you have Giardia. Metagenomics tells you everything that's living in your gut and what those organisms are doing biochemically.

Your kit includes a pre-paid express return envelope. Collect your sample in the morning and post the same day — Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday only. Do not collect on a Thursday or Friday as samples will not reach the lab in time.

Results are returned to your practitioner within 5–10 business days of the lab receiving your samples. We will send your written results summary as soon as they arrive. If you added a 1:1 consultation at checkout, we will contact you to book your session.
